Why is standard 61000-4-6 so important?
Standard 61000-4-6 pertains to conducted disturbances in the radio frequency range on power supply lines and signal ports. Its significance lies in the fact that such disturbances can significantly impact the operation of electrical and electronic devices, causing them to malfunction or even become damaged.
What causes interference?
The cables and wires attached to devices can act as antennas, receiving electromagnetic waves propagated through space. Disturbance currents induced in the cables can penetrate into the interior of devices and potentially interfere with their operation. Therefore, electrical products are tested for immunity to conducted disturbances induced by radio frequency fields, such as handheld and mobile radios used by various services, as well as other sources of electromagnetic waves.
How are the tests conducted?.
The power supply and interface connections (input, output, signal, or control) are subjected to exposure. The test system comprises a signal generator, power amplifier, and a coupling-decoupling network allowing the delivery of disturbance signals to the equipment under test. This enables simulation, under laboratory conditions, of exposure to electromagnetic waves similar to real-world conditions for the tested devices and systems.
