Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do boilers have to be registered in the EPREL database?

Yes, but only certain boilers.

The obligation applies to heating devices covered by EU regulations on ecodesign and energy labelling.

They must be registered in the EPREL (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) before being placed on the EU market.

The registration obligation applies to:

  • manufacturers,

  • importers,

  • authorized representatives.

Lack of registration makes legal sales impossible, including participation in subsidy programs (e.g. Clean Air).

2. Which boilers must be registered in EPREL?

The following devices must be registered in the EPREL database, among others:

  • gas, oil, and pellet boilers for space heating,

  • condensing boilers,

  • heating devices with a capacity of up to 70 kW,

  • sets (e.g. boiler + controller + storage tank).

General rule:
If a device has an EU energy label, it must be registered in EPREL.

3. Which boilers are not subject to EPREL registration?

The following do not need to be registered, among others:

  • devices with a capacity above 70 kW,

  • industrial and process boilers,

  • devices made exclusively to individual order.

4. Who is responsible for registration?

The obligation lies with:

  • the manufacturer (if based in the EU),
  • the importer (if the product comes from outside the EU),
  • the authorized representative.

The installer or seller does not register the product, but should check whether it is listed in the EPREL database.

5. When must registration be completed?

Registration must be done:

  • before placing the product on the market,
  • before starting sales in the EU.
6. Consequences of missing registration

Lack of EPREL registration may result in:

  • a ban on selling the device,
  • administrative penalties,
  • problems during inspections (UOKiK in Poland, Trade Inspection).
