Compulsory LVD (Low Voltage Directive) tests for user safety
Compulsory LVD (Low Voltage Directive) tests for electrical product safety
Testing for compliance with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) is mandatory for electrical products, ensuring they meet specific safety requirements for people and property. These tests confirm that the product complies with the standards and regulations outlined in the LVD, allowing for its lawful introduction into the European market.
Criteria for testing compliance with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
Requirements for compliance with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
During testing, parameters related to operating voltage, insulation, overload resistance, and all other required electrical safety standards are checked. Products that do not pass such tests cannot be placed on the European market for sale.
Conformity assessment process and technical documentation
Technical documentation as a component of compliance with the LVD directive
As part of fulfilling the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), the manufacturer is obligated not only to conduct testing but also to prepare complete technical documentation. This documentation should include, among other things, design descriptions, electrical schematics, test results, and a risk analysis related to the use of the device. RCC supports manufacturers in developing this documentation, significantly simplifying the conformity process and reducing the time to market for the product.
CE mark and manufacturer’s responsibility
CE mark as confirmation of compliance and RCC’s role in the certification process
After successfully completing LVD testing and preparing the documentation, the manufacturer may affix the CE mark to the product. This symbol confirms compliance with European Union regulations. It is important to remember that the manufacturer (or their authorized representative) bears full responsibility for the safety of the device.
Therefore, it is crucial that testing is carried out by a trusted and competent body. An organization such as RCC offers support at every stage of the conformity assessment process.
